On 29 August, between 03:35 - 12:49 UTC, a large region of anonmalous propagation surrounds KOUN.
This AP may be caused by a strong surface inversion at Norman (see Fig. 4).
Radar Operations:
Start time: 03:35 08/29/02 UTC (22:35 08/29/02 local time)
Stop time: 12:49 08/29/02 UTC (07:49 08/30/02 local time)
Radar/Operational Status:
Hydrometeor Classification Algorithm: Cold season
Operational Delivery:
Not applicable.
Snapshots:
Figure 1: Anomalous propagation east of KOUN is represented by a north-south-oriented
line of high reflectivity at 12:49 UTC 29 August 2002.
Figure 2: Low differential reflectivity values, colocated with the high reflectivities,
indicates AP at 12:49 UTC 29 August 2002.
Figure 3: The hydrometeor classification algorithm correctly identifies AP at 12:49 UTC
29 August 2002.
Figure 4: The Norman sounding at 12 UTC 29 August shows a strong surface inversion
which is may be responsible for ducting of the radar beam and therefore the AP.
