Correlation Coefficient
Figure 2: A ring of smaller correlation coefficients (i.e., 0.93) in the northern part of the system suggests the presence of hail within a melting layer.
Specific Differential Phase
Figure 3: Larger (smaller) values of specific differential phase in the northern (southern) part of the system indicates heavier (lighter) precipitation. Also, pockets of zero KDP, colocated with pockets of low RhoHV, offers further evidence of hail within a melting layer.
Hydrometeor Classification
Figure 4: The hydrometeor classification algorithm classifies mostly moderate precipitation within the northern part of the system and light precipitation within the southern part of the system.
